During a trip to a local pet store for the weekly supply of food and entertainment for her inside and outside “children”, Shelley discovered a pet house she thought was very nice. It had all the typical things you expect to see when someone envisions a pet house. From the scratching pad and rope toy to every single inch of surface covered in carpet, it was a fine pet house. Standing at nearly 5 feet tall with a small pagoda at the top it was very nice as far as pet houses go. Prior to making the purchase, she wanted a second opinion. Shelley asked Joe to accompany her back to the store and see the pet house. Upon seeing it, Joe said he bet he could build something far more impressive. What started as a simple bet grew into something beyond all of their expectations.

Together they gathered all the necessary pieces to create their pet house. At one local store Shelley asked the manager if they had any real trees to purchase. Not wanting the house to look like a house but more like a tree. Surprisingly, the manager showed the two of them to a locked warehouse filled with barren tree limbs. After buying the tree limbs they had all they needed to build their first house. Over the course of nearly two weeks of cutting, fitting and sanding the first Pet Tree House® was complete.

Shelley is originally from Pennsylvania and has a BA in Hotel/Restaurant Management. Her professional background includes managing restaurants, human resources and owning and operating a children’s toy store.

Shelley was raised on a farm. This is where her love for animals began. She has three “4-legged” children. Shadow, which is 23 years old (yes we said 23!), Smelvin, 9 years old and Amelia, the baby, at only 2 years old. They are all strays she rescued. Shelley often takes in strays and has them spayed/neutered and all shots administered. Finding loving homes for them is her next step.

To be around cats all day and build them an interactive Tree House where they can play and rest and be happy is a dream come true for Shelley.

Joe is a custom home builder and renovator by trade with a background in architectural and graphic design. Having nearly 20 years in the real estate and building business, Joe provides the artistic concepts as well as the building knowledge to turn each Tree House ® into reality.

Having owned and operated a number of successful businesses throughout his career, Pet Tree House ® is a natural fit. His love of animals and building as well as spending time creating unique homes allows him to express his creative and building skills.
