My Cat Eats to Fast!

April 07, 2012 0 Comments Purr Talk by Shelley DelRocco

Has anyone ever had a cat or cats that just eat too quick?  It's like they have never eaten before and they're starving!!!  We have 7 cats and the littlest ones - the twins, just ravage their food like they are never going to eat again.  I have to put them in separate room to feed them so they don't eat the other cats' food.  Any suggestions on how to change their behavior??  We have had them since birth and they have never wanted for anything.

Easter Lily Dangers

April 04, 2012 0 Comments Purr Talk by Shelley DelRocco

With Easter quickly approaching, please remember that Easter lilies are poisonous to cats.  Even the slightest nibble of a flower or leaf can be deadly to cats.  Kidney failure is the primary organ affected 3-5 days after exposure.  Symptoms are vomiting, salivation, anorexia and depression.  Kidney failure typically follows and the signs are increased thirst and urination, dehydration and lethargy.

Please remember to keep these beautiful flowers out of your cats' reach.

Struvite Crystals

Struvite Crystals!!!  Has anyone ever had this happen to their cat?  Ughhhh, we went through this horrible disease with our male cat Buster.  After several trips to the Vet and finally getting PU sugery, I am happy to say he is doing well.  If you have never heard of struvite crystals, cats get them from their diet.  Mainly too much magnesium in their food. Their PH level is off forming crystals.  These tiny crystals block them and the cat cannot relieve themselves.  If not caught early, this is fatal to cats especially to males.  Keep a close eye on your cats to make sure they are going to the bathroom and not grooming themselves excessively in this area.  Other signs are going outside of the litterbox, trying to go to the bathroom every couple of minutes, crying when they are going to the bathroom.

Halloween Safety for your pets

October 29, 2011 0 Comments Purr Talk by administrator

Halloween safety is essential for pets' health
Tricks and treats can spell trouble for pets this Halloween, so veterinarians advise keeping pets home because the holiday is a common time for pets to get lost. In addition, candy can contain substances toxic to dogs, such as chocolate or xylitol, an artificial sweetener. Pets should also be kept away from candles, and if owners choose to dress up their pets in costumes, the American Veterinary Medical Association says the costume should not impede the animal from opening its mouth or breathing and hearing normally
